A collection of maps and atlases depicting what is now the United States, dating from the 16th century (featuring the works of master cartographers such as Jansson and Mercator) to the 20th. Included are 17th- and early 18th-century maps of North America, Virginia, and the Chesapeake Bay; 19th-century maps of major American cities such as New York and Philadelphia; and a modern atlas showing historical maps of San Francisco.
