James Thomson was a Scottish poet and playwright, perhaps best known now for his 1740 poem "Rule, Britannia."

Small Sexto, [2], 253 pages. In Fair condition. Bound in full contemporary calf, paneled spine with small portion of original label remaining. Significant rubbing, scratching, and wear to binding, front board detached, rear board tenuously attached. Lacking front free endpaper, half-title page. Two strips of acid stains from tape to front pastedown and title page. Pencil ownership to front pastedown. Ink name stamp to title page.

George Washington's name written in pencil twice, not in his hand, once to each pastedown. Presumed to be from the dispersed Mount Vernon library. Consignment. Shelved case 1
