Orlando Furioso, one of the most important Italian epic poems, has directly influenced European literature, including Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene and William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. 20th century influence has been seen in the works of Italo Calvino, Jorge Luis Borges, and Salman Rushdie.

Large Octavo, [16], 654, [34] pages. In Very Good condition. Rebound in period-style full vellum by R. Carlton Seitz, with their stamp and bookplate on front pastedown. Very mild shelfwear. Frontispiece entirely reinforced; pages *2-8 with minor reinforcement, primarily to fore edge; pages E4-F2 with minor reinforcement to lower edge; rear blank VV8 with reinforcement to lower gutter.

Illustrated with an engraved title page, 51 full-page woodcuts (46 in Orlando Furioso and 5 in Cinque Canti), ornamental head- and tail-pieces, and initial letters. The full-page woodcuts use the blocks from the first Valgrisi quarto edition of 1556. A significant number of impressions with weak points, either in whole or part.
