An accomplished poet in his own right, McAlmon was for much of his life at the center of literary circles. In addition to Katherine Ann Porter, he befriended James Joyce, Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot, and published Hemingway's first book and some of Gertrude Stein's writings.
