A collection of items from Muhammad Ali’s early involvement with the Nation of Islam. Included are two vintage wire photos, a signed NOI pamphlet, and two handwritten speech cards.
Photo #1: A 6.5 in. x 7.5 in. wire photo, taken February 27, 1966, showing Muhammad Ali wearing the uniform of the Nation of Islam. In very good condition. Slight but even age-toning. Caption near bottom edge from UPI. The verso has two notations, one in blue ink and the other in black chalk.
Photo #2: An 8 in. x 10 in. wire photo taken on February 25, 1968 shows Muhammad Ali (in full NOI regalia) addressing a gathering of the Nation of Islam. Elijah Muhammad can be seen seated behind Ali. In very good condition. A ¼-inch closed tear at the right edge (does not impact the image), minor age-toning in the margins, and ink emendations to the caption which run parallel to the right edge. The verso has the stamp of United Press International, and a filed date stamp in purple stating “Feb 28 1968”.
Signed Pamphlet: An unnamed religious pamphlet from the NOI signed by Muhammad Ali. A tri-fold pamphlet printed on 8.5 in. x 11 in. copy paper. Ali's signature appears on the blank verso and states: "To Pat / from / Muhammad Ali / 6-28-88". In good plus condition. Light soiling and age-toning, some creasing. Comes with letter of authenticity.
Speech cards: Two handwritten speech cards on 8 in. x 5 in. index cards from an unidentified speech. Written in black marker, large and bold. In very good- condition. Some water stains and light soiling. A letter of authenticity is included.
