Flaubert's magnum opus, Madame Bovary is now considered to be one of the most influential novels of all time. The obscenity trial in 1857, following the serialization in Revue de Paris in the Winter of 1856, led to it becoming a bestseller.

Octavos, two volumes. In Very Good condition. Bound in later unsigned half morocco with marbled paper boards. Spines paneled with gilt lettering. Top edges gilt. Very light shelfwear. Bookplate to both front pastedowns. Lower edge at gutter of pages 487-490 torn and repaired. Both half-titles present. Second Edition, with Sénard spelled correctly on the dedication page.
