A unique volume containing the first chapter of Huneker's Iconoclasts. The first portion of the volume consists of a 17-page autograph manuscript, signed by the author, followed by the printed version of the same chapter.
Quarto, [17], [1], 21 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Handsomely bound in unsigned brown calf with elaborate gold tooling to spine and boards. Boards show some wear and cracking to leather along joints and at the head/tail of spine, tail of spine nearly detached, and minor rubbing to edges and corners of boards. Text block lightly age-toned, with more advanced age-toning to handwritten pages. Loose bookplate of John Markle II appears at front. Two handwritten lightly age-toned slips are included, one provides a brief biography of the author, the second reads "An item from the library of William F. Gable presented to John Markle with happy Easter greetings and the love of James Henry Powers and Edna Gable Powers. / April 9, 1939." Slips lightly age-toned. CX Consignment. Shelved in Case 0.
