More Details

The armorial bookplate on the front pastedown of this volume identifies the volume as having belonged to one William Cutting. The bookplate itself is the work of an engraver named P.R. Maverick, likely a member of the Maverick family who worked as engravers in New York and New Jersey between about 1750 and 1850. A small label, giving only the name of Dr. Joseph M. Gardner and a street address in Augusta, Georgia, is pasted in partially overlapping with Cutting's bookplate.

Quarto, viii, 493 pages, [4]. In Good minus condition. Bound in contemporary mottled calf with morocco label and gilt lettering. Moderate chipping to head and tail of spine and moderate cracking to leather on spine. Spine label largely worn away. Boards show significant cracking to joints (stabilized) and moderate wear to edges. Text block has moderate plus age toning to edges, light shelf wear to bottom edge, light plus age toning and foxing to page interiors (more significant on free end pages), and several pencil annotations to rear free end paper and rear pastedown. Armorial bookplate of former owner William Cutting appears on front pastedown, along with an additional smaller printed book label. RW Consignment. Shelved Room A Oversize.
